OVERALL ROLE PURPOSE

The Credit Data Scientist position is an important role, focused on helping to scale the book and control risk using credit models. The Credit Data Scientist will perform analysis and develop analytical models to translate data into credit decisions and in-depth reports.

This relies on strong credit and analytical ability to help Lula make funding decisions which aim to support our South African SME community. You will combine your qualification, analytical ability and experience to contribute to the credit strategy.

This position will sit in the Credit function and the main responsibilities will include:

• Develop and enhance credit models used to inform the funding decision. These include scorecards, pricing models, take-up models and profit models.
• Develop and enhance IFRS9 ECL models to accurately determine the provision and value of Lula’s book. These models include (PD, LGD, EAD, SICR, FLI).
• Identify and investigate book performance to drive growth and lower risk.
• Implement comprehensive model monitoring to ensure that models are accurate and behaving as expected.

THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Degree in a quantitative field (eg Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering).
• 2+ years experience working as a Data Scientist or a similar role.
• 2+ years experience working within a retail credit environment is advantageous.
• Direct experience in regression modelling or stochastic modelling, specifically in developing scorecards, pricing models, or IFRS9 ECL models is highly advantageous.
• Proficiency in both Python and SQL.
