OVERALL PURPOSE

As the Azure Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, supporting and maintaining our Microsoft Azure cloud environment using an Infrastructure as Code approach. Ensuring that our platforms are measured against Microsoft best practices and adhere to regulatory compliance requirements. Working with cross-functional teams, guiding them in implementing and running a robust and highly scalable Azure infrastructure.

Responsibilities will include:

Azure Cloud Management:

  • Architect, deploy, and maintain Azure-based solutions, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Implement Azure resource management and optimisation strategies to control costs and maximise efficiency.
  • Work with our Site Reliability team to ensure effective monitoring is in place and proactive resolution of issues.
  • Build, manage and support multiple different types of Azure resources including, but not limited to, Azure SQL Servers, Virtual Machines, Application Service Plans, Application Insights, Azure Application Gateways, Azure Firewalls, Azure Virtual Networks etc.

Infrastructure Automation:

  • Drive the automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and management processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) techniques.
  • Promote the adoption of configuration management tools to ensure consistency across environments.

Security and Compliance:

  • Work closely with our Security teams to implement best practices for securing Azure resources and maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and perform risk mitigation measures as necessary.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with the Technical Operations Manager to adopt and implement strategies for improving cloud infrastructure processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA, and operations, to streamline workflows
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on project status, challenges, and improvements.

Technical Expertise:

  • Be the technical point of escalation for the Infrastructure and team and business as a whole for our Azure environment.
  • Provide technical mentoring to junior team members.

THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Diploma or Degree in IT or related Engineering field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Azure cloud architecture, implementation, and management
  • Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts and hands-on experience with tools like Terraform
  • Strong knowledge of Azure networking infrastructure including Firewalls, Application Gateways, etc.
  • Proficient in scripting and automation using languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash
  • Experience with containerisation technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
  • Azure certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, are a plus
